In the hills of Fort-de-France, is an exceptional garden, a haven of peace and a botanical collection: Jardin de Batala. Rent a car and go discover this place.
A few kilometers from the center of Fort-de-France, easily accessible by car, Jardin de Batala (Batala Garden) is one of the star attractions of Martinique. Opened in 1986, this garden is the creation of the horticulturist Jean-Philippe Thoze. As if he was imagining a painting, he planted flowers there, trees and plants from around the world and has developed pathways with exotic landscapes.
After going through the reception, you take trails bordered by heliconias, wild orchids, palms, dracaenas and mahoganies (among others). In the distance you can see the Pitons du Carbet –that can be best seen if you take a walk in the trees, on suspension bridges.
Beside the garden itself, Jardin Batala has a playground for children, a souvenir shop and a shop where you can get ice-cream, cookies, pies and cold drinks.
A little advice from Jumbo Car Martinique : rent an estate car to go, with family, to Jardin de Balata.
Jardin de Balata is open everyday, from 9am to 6pm, but the entrances are allowed only until 4:30pm. The entrance fee costs 13,10€ per adult, 7,50€ per child (until 12 years old) and is free for the children under 3 years old.
